Everyone dreams of having a pristine kitchen with immaculately clean appliances that make you ready and eager to make something delicious. But even if your kitchen is nothing but dirty and disorganized, a little bit of work and effort can make your dreams come through.
In this article, we'll be going through the simple and easy ways that you can clean these common kitchen appliances in your home.
How to Clean a Refrigerator
There are many different reasons that you should keep a tidy refrigerator, but perhaps the most important one is that it is where all your food and ingredients are stored and kept.
It's also the first place you go to when you want to fix yourself up on something yummy, but you'll definitely find yourself losing your appetite if you're greeted by a cluttered mess of strange smells and spilled food.
Here's how you can give your refrigerator a quick refresh:
- Prepare a cleaning solution spray by mixing equal parts of water and distilled white vinegar in a spray bottle.
- With a clean cloth, use the spray to wipe clean any food particles and remove stains that may have stuck onto the shelves.
- While you're at it, you can also use the spray to wipe down the outside of the refrigerator to give it an extra shine.
While the steps used a distilled white vinegar solution, you may also use some warm soapy water by mixing dish soap or dishwashing liquid with some water as an alternative.
How to Clean an Oven
Cleaning an oven may be a worrisome thing, especially with the stainless steel interiors that we definitely don't want to damage with any harsh chemicals, but don't worry because cleaning your oven isn't that complicated.
Here is an easy way to wash away any dirt and debris on this appliance. All you'll need is baking soda, water, white vinegar, a spray bottle and a soft cloth.
- After making sure that the appliance has cooled down, remove all the oven racks and place them on a paper towel to make sure that any dirt or grime doesn't transfer onto your kitchen surfaces.
- Combine equal parts of baking soda and plain water to make a paste. You may start with half a cup for both ingredients and make more as needed to cover the entire inside of the oven.
- After preparing the paste, spread it all over the interior of your oven. Feel free to pull out the cleaning gloves for this step as it can get very messy. Make sure to put a few extra layers onto the areas that have been stained with grease or other baked on foods.
- Leave the paste for at least twelve hours after completely covering the inside of your oven.
During this time, you can get started on cleaning the racks and crumb tray of the oven. Soak these in hot water for a minimum of two hours and feel free to add some dish soap if your trays are extra grimy. Once the two hours are up, you should be able to scrub away the remaining stains.
- After the twelve hours are done, take your soft cloth and run this under some warm water. Take your damp cloth and wipe away the paste and loosen food off the oven's interior.
For this step, you may also opt to use a microfiber cloth to lessen the likelihood of damaging the coating of the appliance.
- As an additional step, you can spray some white vinegar on the walls of your oven to take care of any baking soda paste that may have been left behind, along with other food crumbs that may have been missed.
- Should you also want to clean the inside of the oven glass, you can make another batch of that baking soda paste and spread it all over the glass from the inside. Leave this for about thirty minutes before wiping it off with another damp cloth.
While this is an effective way of making your oven squeaky clean, it will always save time to clean up spills and stains as they come along. As soon as you notice something unsightly sticking to the inside of your oven, immediately rinse and wipe it away, or sprinkle some salt over it to make cleaning it later much easier.
How to Clean a Stove
From stuck on food to grease stains, it's always a good idea to deep clean your stove, especially with how frequently they're used.
- After making sure that your stove or oven is completely cool, fill the sink with hot soapy water and soak all removable parts with baked on food for a few hours.
- Afterwards, give the parts a good scrubbing to get all the food scrapings away, but make sure to not go at it too aggressively to avoid rust or damage to the top coat of the parts.
In case of any stubborn stains, try adding a little baking soda to help!
And while you're at it, you can also take a soft cloth and use some soapy water to wipe down the surface of your stove. It's important to use a non-abrasive cloth for this step, such as a microfiber cloth, to prevent any scratches from permanently damaging your appliance.
- Once the remaining stuck on food and food particles have been removed, wipe everything clean and replace the parts in your stove after letting them air dry.
How to Clean a Microwave
We all know that a microwave is most commonly used for reheating food, but this is an inevitable recipe for splatters and little explosions that can stain and stick inside the appliance.
Here's how you can keep your microwave fresh:
- Get a microwave safe container and fill it with at least a cup of water.
- Place the microwave safe container inside the microwave and heat it up until it's at a roiling boil. Once that happens, stop the microwave and keep the door closed for at least 15 minutes. The steam will soften any food particles and stains and make them easier to wipe clean.
- After 15 minutes, take a soft cloth and dip it in equal parts white vinegar and warm water. Use the damp cloth to wipe the interior walls of the microwave. You can also wipe down the outside of the appliance.
- Take the glass turntable out and wipe it down. Another way that you can clean it is by hand washing with dishwashing liquid or by putting it in the dishwasher.
How to Clean a Dishwasher
Dishwashers help keep our dishes clean, but that doesn't mean that the dishwasher itself doesn't need a cleaning of its own. Just as we clean our showers and baths, we also have to clean our dishwashers to stop stubborn odors and dirt from building up.
- After removing all dishes from the appliance, get a dishwasher safe cup and fill it with white vinegar. Put it on the top rack of the dishwasher and close the door.
- Run your dishwasher on its hottest and longest setting available to loosen up any food crumbs and soap scum that may be stuck.
- After the cycle has finished, take out all the accessories and removable parts of your dishwasher and give them a good cleaning.
You can also take a soft toothbrush and use it to clean off any debris on the sprayers of the dishwasher.
Lastly, any water deposits and stuck on food particles to be found should be easily wiped away thanks to the vinegar earlier.
