We love our pets, but they can get pretty messy sometimes. It's a constant struggle for pet owners to clean after their furry best friends, but cleaning pet stains is only made worse when it lands on your area rug.

The carpet is a dangerous place to have pet accidents because these soak up everything from pet urine stains to pet odors, and these stains can potentially dry completely into your carpet fibers. However, with a few household items and ingredients, cleaning out tough pet stains from carpet will no longer be a nightmare for pet owners everywhere.

The best way to remove pet stains from your carpet is through a professional carpet cleaner, but here are some ways you can remove these stains from your carpet at home!

How to Clean Urine Stains from Carpet

Perhaps the most common pet stain being made by pets everywhere, there's nothing worse than finding your little furry friend leaving you a wet surprise when you get home.

Pet urine doesn't just leave a mess, but it also causes foul odors to linger and cling onto your area rug. Pee is naturally made of uric acid and urea. These are decomposed by the bacteria in your carpet, which causes the odors to be released.

However, dog urine has less of an odor compared to cat urine because the former is much more dilute and has less urea for bacteria to decompose, similarly to human urine. On the other hand, cat urine has a worse odor because of the high concentration of urea that it has.

For this, you'll need a carpet stain remover or a pet stain cleaner, a clean spray bottle, warm water, white vinegar, baking soda, dish soap and a few cloths.

Step 1: Prepare The Carpet

The first thing you should always do when faced with pet stains is soak up as much as you can with a clean cloth to prevent it from drying and getting worse.

Step 2: Get Your Pet Stain Remover

Now it's time to whip out your pet stain remover and spray the carpet until the stain is fully soaked. Then, get a damp cloth or some paper towels and begin blotting at it.

Step 3: Make Your Cleaning Solution

You can make a simple one by combining a cup of water, 1/3 cup of white vinegar, 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1/4 cup of dish soap into a spray bottle.

Step 4: Spray the Stain

Now that you have your cleaning solution, use it to spray the stain before gently rubbing it in with a clean cloth. Let the stain soak in the solution for around 15 minutes.

How to Clean Pet Vomit from Carpet

Vomit is probably one of the worst pet stains to ever encounter, especially when it ends up on your carpet. Unfortunately, it's a harsh reality for many pet owners, especially when your pet has eaten something they shouldn't have or is sick with a stomach flu.

To clean, you'll need a trash bag, a plastic spoon, some distilled white vinegar, a clean spray bottle and some microfiber cloths or old dish towels. You can also choose to wear gloves if you want to.

Step 1: Scrape Away Whatever You Can

After putting on kitchen gloves if you've chosen to, get your spoon and begin scraping away as much vomit as you can into the trash bag.

Step 2: Make Your Cleaning Solution

To make your cleaning solution, all you need to do is dilute some distilled white vinegar with some tap water and pour this into your spray bottle.

Step 3: Spray and Blot

With your cleaning solution in hand, spray over the stain until the spot is damp. Afterwards, get your microfiber cloths or dish towels and blot the area, making sure that you don't let the towels get too saturated.

Also remember that the last thing you want to do is rub the stain and push it deeper into your carpet. This could make it harder to remove, so it's better to blot and dab at the stain only.

How to Clean Feces from Carpet

These kinds of accidents happen, but that doesn't mean that they have to be permanent. Even if finding feces on your carpet is the last thing you wanna do, these can be dealt with quickly and easily.

For this, you will need a bowl, a plastic fork, some paper towels, a vacuum cleaner, some warm water, some white vinegar, baking soda, and a disinfectant spray.

Step 1: Cover the Area

The first rule of cleaning pet stains from your carpet is to never let the stain dry completely and absorb into your carpet, but this is the exception. You probably don't want to go anywhere near fresh excrement, so cover the area with a bowl and leave it to dry.

Step 2: Remove Solid Bits

Once dried, take your fork and use it to gently scrape up the dried feces as much as you can. You can also use your paper towel for this, but be careful not to rub it in.

When finished, vacuum up the area to remove any remaining bits.

Step 3: Make Your Cleaning Solution

You can do this by combining some distilled white vinegar with some water into a spray bottle.

Step 4: Soak the Stain

Use your solution to soak the area before blotting up the excess moisture with paper towels. Repeat this as much as needed until the stain is gone.

Step 5: Sprinkle Baking Soda

When the stain has been lifted, leave a generous amount of baking soda on the stain to remove any foul odors and smells.

Step 5: Vacuum and Disinfect

The next day, vacuum up all the baking soda and make sure that there are no traces of it left. Finally, spray the stained area with disinfectant spray to kill any bacteria that could still be lingering there and leave the carpet to dry.
