A good aircon installation is normally made up of three things: aircon pipes, wires and an aircon insulator. Aircon insulation, on the other hand, is an often overlooked but highly crucial aspect of the entire installation process. This is why aircon experts are always quick to point out its importance and overall function in complementing any air conditioning system.

So what exactly is an air con insulator and what does it do? In this article, we take a closer look at the main function and benefits of this aircon installation set-up must-have.

What is an Aircon Insulation?

Before we even dive deeper into how this aircon process works, let’s first take a look at its basic definition and purpose.

A standard aircon insulator consists of a connected series of thick black foam wires that act as the protective layer for the copper pipes of a unit. These wires act like a big sponge which absorbs any condense water formations along the copper pipe. Aside from protecting these copper pipes, the insulation also reduces the risk for water leakages and drippings from the aircon unit.

Now that we’ve defined what an aircon insulation is, it’s time to take a closer look at what exactly it does to complement the aircon system and its parts.

The indoor unit of an air conditioner operates by taking the heat from the interior — from your bedroom to the office boardroom — and releasing it outwards via the outdoor aircon unit. This is done with the help of a pump-driven cooling agent through the wall between the two aircon units.

So imagine what happens when there’s an unobstructed route between these two units and environments. You guessed that right — heat will travel back inside your home and add up to the heightened moisture and humidity in the enclosed space. This makes the aircon completely useless and inefficient. Sounds sweaty and uncomfortable if you ask us.

Types of Aircon Insulation

When it comes to choosing the best type of air con insulation, there are two common types: tube and sheet. Both insulation materials are made of foam, providing optimal resistance to heat or thermal conductivity.

1. Tube insulation is mainly used for insulating aircon pipes and duct systems. These tubes usually come in different sizes that cater to different wall densities as well as different diameters to fit multiple holes. If you’re leaning towards this material, make sure to choose your preferred tube density before purchasing, whether it may be steel or copper.

2. Sheet insulation, on the other hand, is commonly used for windows and to plug any gap to prevent loss of air circulation in any enclosed space. They can also be customized into different shapes, thickness and sizes to fit any diameter of holes or crevices. They’re also ideal for minimizing sound vibrations that can lower the noise of any aircon unit.

Optimize Your Aircon’s Performance and Efficiency
