Porcelain tile floors are one of the easiest flooring types to clean in a home or an office. To keep it free from dirt and stains, all you have to do is maintain it by sweeping or vacuuming at least once a week. Although porcelain is very easy to clean and maintain, it’s still not fully protected from catching these tough stains and other impurities. So how to clean floor tiles? In this article, we’ll show you the following steps when doing tile cleaning for different types of porcelain flooring.

Cleaning Different Types of Porcelain Tiles

1. Unpolished Tiles

  • Remove loose dirt from the floor by sweeping and vacuuming the area before cleaning
  • Wash the floor with a floor tile cleaner coupled with hot water. Stir the mixture and allow it to sit on the floor for about 5 to 10 minutes. It is important that you remove the solution right away to avoid it from drying directly on the surface.
  • For tough and stubborn stains, scrub the cleaning material using a floor machine with an abrasive pad or a nylon-bristled brush. If your floor area is relatively small, you can use a small brush scrub.
  • Get rid of the cleaning solution by washing the floor with clean and clear water. You can do this by using a mop or a vacuum cleaner.
  • Leave the entire floor area to air dry.

2. Polished Tiles

  • Sweep the floor by getting rid of the dust and dirty elements on the surface. Afterwards, use a vacuum cleaner to remove any excess loose dirt.
  • Give the floor a nice wash by mopping it with a mild cleaning solution. The solution or detergent must be 50% less than the amount used when cleaning an unpolished porcelain tile floor.
  • Wash away the cleaning solution by splashing it with clean water.
  • Wipe the floor area dry to bring out the shine and luster of the surface and prevent water spots from forming and settling.

3. Textured Tiles

  • Remove loose dirt from the textured porcelain tile floor by sweeping and vacuuming the dust away. Use a soft-bristled broom and begin sweeping in two directions to clean the floor effectively. Afterwards, suck the remaining debris out by using a vacuum machine.
  • Wash the floor by using a neutral cleaning solution mixed with hot water. Allow it to sit on the surface for about 5 to 10 minutes. Afterwards, begin scrubbing the floor using a brush in two different directions.
  • Clean the floor thoroughly by rinsing it with clean and clear water.
  • To maintain the shine and cleanliness of the floor, scrub and mop it at least once a day using a gentle floor cleaner.

The Don’ts When Cleaning Porcelain Floors

  • Do not clean porcelain flooring with ammonia or any solution with bleach and acid. These materials have high abrasive properties that can erode the surface and cause it to change in grout color.
  • Do not use oil-based detergents, wax cleaners and sealants for cleaning materials.
  • Do not use cleaning ingredients that contain any dye or coloring.
  • Do not forget to place rugs at entrances to prevent additional dirt from coming into contact with the tile flooring.
  • Do not use steel wool pads when cleaning as they can damage the floor and cause rust stains in the grout.
