The tiles used to decorate bathroom floors are usually beautiful, tough, and easy to clean. The grout that develops on these tiles, however, is another story altogether.

As most of the tiles used in bathroom floors tend to be of lighter shades, it becomes fairly easy to spot the grout. Grout is porous and extremely prone to staining as well and can pick up dirt and grime with ease.

To help you keep the floors of your bathroom clean, we have a detailed guide that tells you how to clean shower tile grout in the bathroom.

What You’ll Need

In order to successfully clean the bathroom tile grout, you’ll need the following supplies:

  • Vinegar
  • Spray bottle
  • A stiff-bristled brush
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Baking soda
  • Grout cleaner
  • Oxygen bleach
  • Chlorine bleach
  • A steam mop

Cleaning Shower Grout: A Step-by-Step Process

By following the simple steps provided below, you’ll be able to make quick work of these stains in your bathroom.

  1. Begin by giving the dirty area in your bathroom a good scrub using just warm water and your stiff-bristled brush. Just spray the warm water on the tiles and make sure to scrub in a circular fashion. Allow the grout to dry before moving on.
  2. You can create a solution using equal parts vinegar and warm water in order to take care of mild to heavy dirt stains on your grout. Just fill a spray bottle with this solution and apply a healthy amount on the grout. Let the solution sit for five minutes on the tiles before you scrub it with a stiff brush.
  3. For a deeper cleaning of the surface, you can make a powerful paste using water and baking soda. Apply the past on the grout lines and then spray it with your vinegar-water solution. After the mix has stopped foaming, you can use a brush to scrub the region clean. You can now rinse the tiles with plain water.
  4. Some moderately tough stains may only come off with the help of hydrogen peroxide that’s known to work wonders on grout. You can find this chemical in most drug stores. Just apply a paste made out of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda on the grout to get the desired results. Allow it to sit for five minutes before scrubbing it down with water.
  5. The really tough stains on your grout lines will need a special grout solution cleaner — oxygen bleach. You can again find this in various brands in the market. After applying the oxygen bleach solution, allow it to sit for 10 to 15 minutes before you rinse the tiles with clean water.
  6. If you’re not keen on using effective home remedies such as the ones mentioned above, you can always resort to using a commercial grout cleaner. Most of these will either require you to spray and wipe the grout or remove it with a brush.
  7. If you’re using chlorine bleach to clean the grout or any commercial bleach that includes chlorine bleach, make sure to use it only sparingly and in extreme situations.
  8. You can also utilize the help of a steam mop in order to clean out the worst of the stains on your grout. Not only is this method easy to execute, but it's also eco-friendly.
