How to Clean Bar Mats
In case you didn’t know, bar mats can get pretty nasty. People are constantly spilling drinks onto it—whether bartender or patron—and it can get very saturated with various substances and liquids. You don’t want these things clinging onto your bar floor mats for too long, which is why it’s important to clean them out regularly.
Step 1: Prepare the Bar Mat
You should start by getting a broom and sweeping it across the entire surface. This will get out any loose debris like food particles, dirt and dust that could be clinging onto your mat, resulting in a much easier cleaning process later on.
Step 2: Start Scrubbing
After getting all the debris out, fill a large bucket with some soap and water before getting a scrubbing brush and tackling any sticky stained areas. When cleaning a bar mat, you actually don’t need any harsh chemicals because a soapy water solution is more than enough to get any messes out.
Step 3: Thoroughly Rinse and Dry
Once all the stained areas have been completely removed and cleaned off, you can now rinse your mat with some clean water. This will be easier if you have a hose that comes with a spray attachment, but running it under some water for a while will also get the job done.
Make sure that all the soap and suds come off before leaving your mat to air dry.
How to Clean Beer Glasses
Everyone thinks that the secret to a delicious beer is the draft, but it’s really the cleanliness of the glass. When poured into an unclean container, any unseen messes and stains that could be lurking inside the glass could mix with the beer and contaminate the flavor, or even make it go flat much more quickly and lose its aroma.
Safe to say that no one wants to be served a beer in a filthy glass, so here’s how to clean yours.
Step 1: Choose Your Cleaning Solution
While there are many commercial bar glass cleaners out there, you can also make your own by mixing together 2 teaspoons of baking soda with a half teaspoon of salt and 4 teaspoons of water into a bowl to form a paste.
Your paste should have a thinner consistency than that of toothpaste, so feel free to add some more baking soda if you feel the need to thicken it, as well as some water to make it thinner.
Step 2: Coat Beer Glass
Once you’ve chosen and prepared your cleaning solution, coat it inside the beer glass, making sure that the entire interior is completely covered. If you find yourself having a hard time fitting your hand into your glass, you can apply the solution with a small spatula.
Step 3: Start Scrubbing
With the inside of your glass completely covered, it’s time to scrub at it with a bottle brush. Make sure that you scrub away and remove anything that could be stuck to the glass.
Step 4: Rinse and Dry
When you’ve finished scrubbing the entire glass, rinse the paste away with cool and clean water. It’s important to make sure that all the paste has been washed away. Also, make sure to avoid non-filtered or hard water for rinsing as either of these can create a thin film or mineral deposits in the beer glass.
After rinsing, place the glasses upside down on a dish rack and let them air dry naturally.
How to Clean Fabric Bar Stools
Fabric stools are already a pain to clean, but fabric stools found in bars are even more of a burden, especially with all the accidents and messes that they see on a nightly basis. However, we all know how important it is to clean them to maintain their looks and freshness, so here’s an easy way that you can do it yourself!
Step 1: Prepare Stool
Preparing the fabric stool basically means removing all loose particles and debris with a dry brush. This makes the cleaning process much quicker later on, so be sure to run the brush over the entire surface of the fabric before running a vacuum cleaner over it for a more thorough cleaning.
Step 2: Whip Out the Baking Soda
It’s worth mentioning that the best cleaning practice is always to tackle stains as soon as they occur, but sprinkling any old stains with baking soda can help remove nasty smells and loosen stains so that they’re easier to lift away. Leave the baking soda for around 20 minutes before vacuuming it all up with a brush attachment.
Step 3: Spot Treat
This is when you bring out your fabric cleaner, but there are a few things you have to do before proceeding. Firstly, test your cleaner out on an inconspicuous area before proceeding. Next, make sure to check the cleaning code of your fabric stool to see what the manufacturer’s recommended cleaning method is.
When you’ve done both of those and find no issues, follow the instructions at the back and spot treat any remaining stains.
