Common Problems with the Frigidaire Window Air Conditioner
#1 Frigidaire Air Conditioner is Leaking Water
If your window air conditioner is leaking water, there is a high chance your air conditioning unit was improperly installed. Window air conditioners must be installed with a slight tilt outwards, so the condensation formed around the unit can drip outside instead of indoors.
A window air conditioning unit that drips water indoors is most likely tilted inwards, causing the water droplets to leak into the house. However, other causes include a dirty filter, clogged condensate drain lines, and frozen air conditioners.
Clean the AC filter, and reinstall your unit properly. The leaking water problem should stop. If the problem persists, contact our technicians to check for refrigerant leaks or clogged drain lines. Giving your AC a professional deep clean may also fix the issue.
#2 Air Conditioner is Not Cooling Properly
When the air conditioner is not blowing cold air, there may be a cause for concern. Faulty compressors, refrigerant leaks, and a faulty fan motor can prevent your AC unit from converting warm air into cool air, which may be why your AC isn't cooling the room properly.
A dirty air filter restricts the air circulation around your unit, which may also contribute to the aircon problem. Start by cleaning the filter first to see if that solves the issue. If not, inspect each probable cause, and troubleshoot according to the troubleshooting guide in your owner's manual. Contact us at Luce Aircon for repairs and replacements.
#3 Air Conditioner is Freezing Up
The air conditioner freezing up is a sign of excess condensate within your unit, which may be caused by a dirty evaporator coil. As moisture builds around the air conditioner's coils, the cool air running through your unit freezes the condensate, causing your AC to freeze up. A frozen AC may malfunction, and refuse to follow commands from the remote control.
Check for the error code on the LED screen of your unit or on the remote control. Shut off your air conditioner to let the ice thaw. Clean the evaporator coil and air filter, then let everything dry before placing it back into your unit. Your air conditioner should work properly again afterwards without freezing.
#4 Air Conditioner Makes Hissing Sounds
Frigidaire air conditioners are typically quiet. That hissing sound coming from your AC unit indicates a problem within your cooling system, which is most likely due to a refrigerant leak. As the gas escapes through narrow passageways in the AC unit, it can create a hissing sound. Immediately unplug the power cord of your unit, and contact a technician to fix the leak.
Other aircon sounds may mean other problems. A rattling noise means a part has broken off, and is rattling around your unit. A clunking sound may be due to a bent fan blade hitting against other aircon components. Identify the sound first before troubleshooting.
How to Reset Your Frigidaire Air Conditioner
Reset Point: Reset Button
Locate the restart button of your Frigidaire air conditioner. Depending on the model, you may need to use a pin to hold and press down on the reset button. Unplug your unit, and press and hold the reset button for at least 3-5 seconds. This will restart your unit, and potentially fix any glitches in the system. Power your unit on, and see if restarting the unit solved your problem.
Frigidaire Window Air Conditioner Troubleshooting Guide
#1 Keep Your Window Unit Clean
Cleaning your filters and coils will prevent the majority of common Frigidaire problems. Dirt and dust in your unit can restrict air flow, causing your unit to overwork and overheat. This may damage the parts of your unit, and blow a fuse in the circuit breaker or fuse box as well.
#2 Have a Routine Checkup of Your Unit
Part of our services offered at Luce Aircon is the maintenance of your air conditioning unit: whether it is a portable Frigidaire air conditioner, a window-type, or a mini-split. Our technicians will be able to provide the best care for your unit, and present to you the proper ways of maintaining the good condition of your cooling system.
#3 Take Your Window Inside during Winter
Unless you have built-in air conditioners, it is a good idea to bring your air conditioner inside when not in use. This will minimize the chances of the cold damaging your AC components, and keep your AC functioning properly. Unused aircons can become nesting grounds for rodents and critters as well, which may damage the components of your AC.
Take your Frigidaire window air conditioner indoors during snow days or particularly cold days. Unscrew the unit from the window sill, disconnect it from the power supply, and keep it in storage until you need to use the unit again.
