Common Problems with Coleman Air Conditioners

#1 Air Conditioner Not Running

If your Coleman air conditioner is not running or refuses to power on, check for electrical problems. Chances are you have a tripped circuit breaker, busted fuse, or a voltage drop with your electrical connections. These problems may require the expertise of a trained electrician, so do not attempt to fix advanced electrical issues by yourself.

This problem is one of the most common problems with the Coleman Mach air conditioner, also called the Coleman Mach RV air conditioner as it is mostly used in RVs. If the issue is with an overheating unit, faulty compressor or capacitor, or any issues with the internal components of the air conditioner, contact a trained technician from Luce to fix it.

#2 Air Conditioner is Not Cooling Properly

Your Coleman air conditioner may be running, but it is not cooling your room as it should. In this case, check first if the air blowing out of your unit is cool. The issue may be with the mismatched size of the air conditioner to the size of your room. Opt for a more powerful unit, or move the AC unit into a smaller room to fix the issue.

If the AC unit is blowing hot air instead of cold air, it may be due to a number of causes ranging from poor air flow from a dirty filter, to a faulty compressor failing to run refrigerant through the unit, or even a refrigerant leak. Contact us at Luce for an accurate diagnosis!

#3 AC Unit Fan Motor Not Working

Faulty fan motors are common among air conditioners, even in Coleman air conditioning systems. Fans operate on a high-speed function to properly cool the room, and provide adequate airflow around the HVAC system. The fan blades and motor are prone to wearing down quickly with regular use.

Fan motor replacements are simple solutions that can be done by a licensed technician at Luce. Replacing one part of the air conditioner will save you the costs of purchasing a new air conditioner, and will lengthen the lifespan of your current unit as well.

#4 Air Conditioner is Making Noise

Focus on the sounds coming from your AC - an air cooling system may have a low and quiet whirring sound from the motors operating inside the unit, and this is normal. A loud noise would be alarming, and indicates a problem with the unit.

A buzzing noise may be from a failing capacitor, while a banging sound is most likely from the fan blades hitting other components in the air conditioning system. Figure out the sound to determine the problem, or let our technicians handle the issue to rule out the guessing game for you!

#5 Air Conditioner is Dripping Water

If your Coleman air conditioner is dripping water, it may be due to a number of factors from a defrosting AC system, to high levels of humidity in the indoor or outside air volume. More often than not, a leaking AC system is due to poor air circulation due to a dirty air filter.

Clean the filter first to see if that solves the issue. If not, check for a clogged drain line, an overflowing drain pan, or frozen coils. Have a technician take a look at your unit if the problem persists.

How to Reset Coleman Air Conditioners

Reset Point: Circuit Breaker

Reset your Coleman AC by shutting it down through the thermostat, then make your way to the circuit breaker box. Look for the circuit breaker connected to your AC unit, and flip the switch. Wait for one minute before flipping the switch back to its original position. This will cause your AC unit to reboot, and potentially fix any issues it may have.

Coleman Air Conditioners Troubleshooting Guide

#1 Regular Cleaning will Prevent Aircon Issues

The majority of common problems with your Coleman air conditioner can be solved by doing a thorough cleaning of your unit. Cleaning the air filters and evaporator coils will help promote proper airflow within the unit, and prevent problems such as a clogged drain line, frozen AC, overheating motors, and more.

Clean your filters regularly - at least once every two weeks, and contact us for a thorough, deep cleaning service of your unit. Prevention is the best way to keep your air conditioner durable, and cleaning will prevent most aircon problems.

#2 Check Your Owner's Guide

For a full guide on troubleshooting, check the owner's manual that came with your Coleman air conditioner. You will most likely find step-by-step troubleshooting solutions that will address the specific problems with your unit, as well as home fixes to keep your aircon running smoothly. If all else fails, contact us at Luce.
