Common Problems with the Carrier Air Conditioner
#1 Air Conditioner is Freezing Up
A frozen AC is a common AC problem across different air conditioning brands. Air conditioners would typically freeze up due to a dirty air filter and evaporator coil, but a frozen evaporator coil may also be due to a refrigerant leak.
Let the ice thaw out first, then clean your unit to remove excess dust and debris from the air filter. If cleaning the clogged air filter does not fix the problem, then contact a Luce HVAC technician to find and fix the leak in the refrigerant line.
#2 Air Conditioner is Making a Whirring Sound
Air conditioners are quiet. They may normally make low, silent humming noises from the motors running in the unit, but a loud, whirring sound indicates a problem. A whirring, helicopter-like sound often indicates a faulty fan motor, which will need to be replaced by a licensed technician in order to fix the issue, and prevent further damage to your unit.
#3 Air Conditioner is Short Cycling
When the AC unit is turning on and off repeatedly in intervals of a few minutes at a time, then you know your air conditioning system is faulty. This issue is called short cycling, and prevents your AC from properly cooling the room.
Short cycling is often caused by a clogged filter, or obstructed return air duct, which are quick fixes. Simply clean your unit, and remove any clogs or blockages. If this does not fix the problem, have our technicians inspect your HVAC system, as you may have problems with the condensing unit, capacitor, or other components that would be difficult to pinpoint.
#4 Air Conditioner has Electrical Issues
Air conditioner tripping the circuit breaker? Just flip the switch back, cut down on the plugged devices around the house, and the problem should not recur. However, any issues with the power supply, such as faulty wiring, loose sockets, or power failures should be handled by a professional, so contact your electrician immediately.
How to Reset Your Carrier Air Conditioner
Reset Point: Reset Button
Carrier air conditioners come with reset buttons located on the remote control or control panel of the air handler unit. Use a pin, such as a cellphone pin, to press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds until the AC unit shuts off. Release the button, and wait for the AC unit to restart, then check to see if the issue is resolved.
Restarting your unit will help clear glitches and select issues with your HVAC system. The reset will change your AC settings back to the factory settings, clearing away any faults or conflicting commands from the control board.
Carrier Air Conditioner Troubleshooting Guide
#1 Clean Your Air Conditioning System
Cleaning your heating and cooling system will immediately solve most common problems from your AC unit, as you clear the damaging dust and debris from the components of your AC. At-home cleaning can be done to the filter, coils, and outdoor unit every two weeks, while a professional clean should be done every 4-6 months.
#2 Shade the Outdoor Unit
The outdoor unit is exposed to the elements outside, from heat to rain. The sudden changes in temperature, as well as consistent moisture, can cause your AC unit to wear down its components faster. Shield your heating and cooling system's outdoor unit using a shade to deflect the heat from the sun, as well as the moisture from the rain.
